I truly enjoy meeting people ! I’ve always found the differences in people so fascinating. It’s one of the many reasons I truly enjoy my career. As a real estate agent we meet different people almost daily. Everyone has their own story i would encourage you to spend some time this week talking to someone you dont know. Who knows maybe you will make a new friend.
I was watching the morning news recently and they were talking about a study done recently that says most americans don't eat dinner together as a family. That's a shame ya'll. Generations past the dinner table was the one place that family's met at the end of the day to have fellowship and discuss what happened during the day. Children learned from their parents at the dinner table; they learned how to interact with others, how to handle situations as adults, how to be the best versions of themselves.
When a family sits down together, it helps them handle the stresses of daily life and the hassles of day-to-day existence. Eating together tends to promote more sensible eating habits, which in turn helps family members manage their weight more easily. (https://www.stanfordchildrens.org/en/topic/default?id=why-the-family-meal-is-important-1-701) When having a family meal there are a few steps to take to make the event more enjoyable for everyone at the table. First and foremost, ensure that there are open lines of communication. Dinner time shouldn't be a formal affair. Everyone in the family should feel comfortable to talk openly about their day. When talking with your children about their day use open ended questions that invite them paint a picture of their day versus just one word answers. Invite everyone in the family to help with the preparation of dinner, from meal prep to setting the table. This gives everyone the chance to feel involved and to feel as though they have helped in some way. This will encourage the family to take pride in their efforts towards feeding the family. Did you know that conversation at the dinner table can increase self esteem? When spending time focusing on the people around you and giving value to their words you are encouraging them and letting them know that they are important to you. Over the past 20 years researchers have confirmed what parents have known for a long time: Sharing a family meal is good for the spirit, the brain and the health of all family members. Recent studies link regular family dinners with many behaviors that parents pray for: lower rates of substance abuse, teen pregnancy and depression, as well as higher grade-point averages and self-esteem. Studies also indicate that for young children, dinner conversation is a more potent vocabulary-booster than reading, and the stories told around the kitchen table help our children build resilience. The icing on the cake is that regular family meals also lower the rates of obesity and eating disorders in children and adolescents. (https://thefamilydinnerproject.org/resources/faq/) Take the time this week to have a laid back, fun family dinner and see how it goes. If you need help with recipes scroll further down to see what I cooked up for this week. Also, follow me on Facebook for some hilarious cooking videos. My first time cutting up a whole chicken! My mother in law was kind enough to cook a chicken for the family so I decided to video the right way to cut a chicken for the dinner table. This was my first time ya'll so don't hold it against me.
This coming Monday is Labor Day. Labor Day weekend is usually the last big summer party weekend through out the US. It signals the end of summer and the start of preparing for fall. Many of you may be planning a weekend on the lake or bar-b-que at home with family. Or maybe you will be spending the weekend quietly completing home renovations and yard cleanings.
Why do we celebrate Labor Day, though? Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. (https://www.dol.gov/general/laborday/history) Did you know that the very first Labor Day ordinances took place in September of 1882? Some records show that Peter J. McGuire, general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a co-founder of the American Federation of Labor, was first in suggesting a day to honor those "who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold." While celebrating this weekend keep in mind the past generations that have worked so tirelessly to make this country what it is today. Ignore the political and social drama and remember that our forefathers worked very hard for everything you see around you; the technological advances, the medical advances, and the advances in our very welfare. Be proud of the hard work you put in on a daily basis! National Association of Realtors® Partners with Food Recovery Network to Fight Hunger Across the U.S.
During its annual Leadership Summit in Chicago, the National Association of Realtors® today announced a new commitment to fight hunger, as NAR will ensure all future events and meetings are Food Recovery Verified. Food Recovery Verified is a Food Recovery Network program that recognizes food businesses and events for recovering surplus food and donating it to hunger-fighting non-profits. Working in partnership with FRN, a national non-profit committed to fighting food waste and hunger through food recovery, NAR has asked the 1,200 local and state Realtor® associations around the country to “take the pledge” and join to help multiply the effort. “Giving back to the community is the right thing to do, and I am proud that NAR members have a long history of helping their neighbors,” said Bob Goldberg, NAR CEO. “We hope this effort will inspire other associations, organizations, businesses and individuals to fight hunger in their local communities through food recovery.” Looking for personality and charm?
